GS-201 é uma exata simulação de uma maquina de delay de fita do início dos anos setenta, caracterizando:

• Dynamic range distintiva e resposta de freqüência.
• Resposta realística para os controles do painel.
• Motor "wow e flutuação".
• Degradação de sons e distorções em altos niveis de feedback.
• Sons muito naturais de ruido e zumbidos de fita.
• Três tipos diferentes de modelos de fita magnética.
• Uso de CPU extremamente baixo.

Foram inventados efeitos de eco de fita no fim dos anos cinqüenta. Presumivelmente a primeira máquina de eco de fita foi inventada por Charlie Watkins em 1958 Londres Inglaterra. Estava baseado em uma volta pequena de 1/4 de fita sobre a qual o áudio era registrado por uma cabeça magnética e então lida antes das três cabeças separadas. O que era lido na fita foi ampliado pelo circuito de válvula interno e eventualmente registrada para a fita, criando a realimentação ou sustentando o efeito de eco. O tempo de demora da unidade era determinado por distância dos cabeçotes de gravações e leitura, em conjunção com o sd da fita. Muitos fabricantes produziam as suas próprias versões de máquinas de eco, principalmente baseado no sistema de fita magnética. Binson famoso Echorec era baseado em um cabeçote circular com uma faixa metálica magnética, era usado por Pink Floyd para gerar os ecos. Outra máquina de eco de fita famosa era o Maestro Echoplex, fortemente usado pelo pianista Herbie Hancock. Outras unidades notáveis eram o Selmer TruVoice Echo o Dynacord Echocord, ao longo de um do mais famosos e extensamente usado em 1973 até os dias de hoje é o Roland RE-201. Este modelo em particular tem uma volta de fita de aproximadamente 4 metros que é registrado, lido e é apagado continuamente.
